SOPRANO
- Abby Carlson
Abby is beyond thrilled to be singing with WestBeat! Her musical journey began at the age of 3 when she started playing the glockenspiel, and has continued through a seamless involvement in choirs, piano, drums, band, orchestra, and musical theatre.
Abby holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Jazz Studies & Choral/Vocal Music Education from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSULB. While there, she sang with the Chamber Singers, University Choir, Studio Jazz Band, and Pacific Standard Time. She also spent one season with the Orange Community Dance Band and two years with BRAVO Song & Dance Co, and she currently sings with the funk band, SUB. Favorites/regional credits include JEKYLL & HYDE (Emma), INTO THE WOODS (The Baker’s Wife), HAY FEVER (Sorel Bliss), FCLO’s BRIGADOON and JANE EYRE (Mary Rivers), and most recently, 3DT’s WIZARD OF OZ.
Abby is the Soprano Section Leader/Soloist and Children’s Music Director at her church, and she frequently appears as a guest artist/teacher throughout OC/LA elementary schools. She is a Music & Theatre Conservatory Teacher at OCHSA, and is honored and blessed to be able to perform and teach the arts for a living. She thanks her parents for their constant love & support, and her wonderful husband, Matt Carlson, for encouraging & inspiring her to follow her dreams. So having an a cappella group to sing in all year long is a thrill for her!

Prior to her becoming a caroler during the holidays she was the asst. choreographer/maintenance choreographer/flight instructor for the “flying angels” in the Glory of Christmas at the Crystal Cathedral. She would like to thank her husband for being the best director to work for and the best husband to come home to and their three amazing dogs Gracie, Jack and Ralphie.

- Melinda Koen
Melinda is thrilled to be a part of Westbeat! A southern California native, Melinda has performed locally as well as abroad. Most recently she performed as a lead singer aboard Holland America ms Prinsendam. In addition to having performed on several HAL ships, Melinda has also traveled throughout the United States performing in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, including having performed in New York City at Radio City Music Hall. Other favorite credits include Dorothy in THE WIZARD OF OZ, Laurey in OKLAHOMA, Ann Collier in 1940’S RADIO HOUR, Lili in CARNIVAL, Wendy in PETER PAN and Chava in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Melinda would like to thank TJ and Jeanette for the opportunity to be a part of this fabulous group and to her wonderful family and friends for their constant love and support.
- Angelica Roque
Angelica Roque is a Southern California native whose Grandfather said that she began singing before talking. Growing up in a music-filled home, she began singing professionally for the Beach Cities Swing Band at 16. In 2004, Angelica joined the Young Americans, an international nonprofit organization of young performers that educate the world’s children in the arts. She has toured the United States and United Kingdom with their International Music Outreach Tour. Other performances with them include their Magic of Christmas production, spending two summers at the Boyne Highlands Dinner Theatre in Michigan, and understudying Broadway leading ladies Susan Egan and Laura Bell Bundy in productions at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Musical theatre has proved to be Angelica’s real passion and she currently works as a children’s theatre director. She has appeared in shows such as Bye Bye Birdie, Little Shop of Horrors, Guys and Dolls and RENT. Some of her favorite roles include Belle in Beauty and the Beast and the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
While in college, Angelica sang with UCSD’s premiere a cappella group the Tritones, which introduced her to the amazing world of a cappella. She was elated to happen upon WestBeat years later and discover that the infectious energy that comes with this style of singing expands well beyond the college campus. On an average day, you might find Angelica hanging out with her huge family, harmonizing to the radio, or playing video games. But if it’s Sunday, she’ll be singing in church!
- Amber Snead
Amber loves to “sing sing sing” and is thrilled to be singing along with her amazingly talented friends in Westbeat. Her first love is music and her passion is musical theatre. She has been performing on stage for the last 18 years. Amber is a graduate from CSU Fresno with a B.A. in Theatre Arts. She has performed in many musicals throughout California and aspires to be on the Broadway stage soon! Her favorite role has been Sylvia in ALL SHOOK UP, in which she worked with several members of Westbeat. Other favorite credits include Dionne in HAIR (five Ovation nominations, and six LADCC nominations), Crystal in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, Mama Euralie in ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, and The Sour Kangaroo in SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL. Amber thanks her family and friends for their love, support, and constant encouragement. But most of all, thanks be to God for giving me so many opportunities to do what I love most!

- Nadia Ahern
Nadia has been singing and performing professionally for almost 2 decades. A graduate of the prestigious Musical Theatre program at the University of Windsor in Canada, this dual citizen has appeared on stages across the country-most notably on the Second City stage as a member of the Motorcity mainstage and touring companies. Making a name in the late night Chicago theatre scene, Nadia has performed with Apple Tree Theatre, Lifeline Theatre, Pegasus Players and was a regular fixture of the STAGES festival showcasing upcoming and new musicals. Upon moving to Los Angeles, Nadia’s soulful and powerhouse Mezzo Soprano voice has spanned the broad spectrum of roles from traditional choir concerts and Christmas caroling with the Voices of Christmas; to the soaring range of Aldonza in A Noise Within’s production of MAN OF LA MANCHA; to t traditional musical comedy in Knightsbridge Theatre’s SNOOPY!!! as the spunky and sardonic Lucy Van Pelt and the By George! production of Cole Porter’s RED HOT AND BLUE; to the non-traditional roles of Effie White and Judas Iscariot during the Hollywood Fringe Festival in OUR FAVORITE SINGS and the raunchy and rockin’ multiple roles she played in hit BUKOWSICAL!-which won the NY Fringe Festival’s Best New Musical honors. Nadia currently can be heard on the Original Cast Recording of BUKOWSICAL! and is a fixture on the Los Angeles cabaret scene, offering audience members enjoyable evenings of music and laughter.

- Samara Otero
Samara would like to thank TJ and Jeanette for this awesome opportunity. She can currently be seen doing Aladdin the musical spectacular at Disney California Adventure. Favorite theater roles include Anita in West Side Story, Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes, Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, also doing Jekyll and Hyde and Scarlet Pimpernel. She loves singing harmonies and can’t wait to get into the Christmas season and sing some Christmas tunes.

T.J. is thrilled to be singing with not only incredible singers, but friends. While he sadly doesn’t get to perform much due to his crazy work schedule, he does get out there now and again. Most recently he was seen as “The Big Bopper” in the BUDDY HOLLY STORY with McCoy Rigby at the La Mirada Performing Arts Center. From that performance he was asked to be the sub for JP Richardson Jr. (The Bopper’s biological son) in the WINTER DANCE PARTY world tour playing “Big Bopper.”
Selected performing credits include; Voice Over: DEEP LABRYNTH (Shawn) Nintendo DS, SUMMON NIGHT (Loki) Gameboy Advance. European Tour: GREASE (Roger) Regional: PARADE (Randy) West Coast Premiere with Musical Theatre Guild (MTG), THE FULL MONTY (Dave) with the Candlelight Pavilion, SEUSSICAL (Horton) with Performance Riverside, US premiere of the revival of ANYONE CAN WHISTLE (Deputy Quartet) at the Matrix Theatre, LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE (Slim) with MTG, CRAZY FOR YOU (Moose) at Musical Theatre West and Downey Civic Light Opera, MUSIC MAN (Ewart Dunlop/Lead in Quartet) and WIZARD OF OZ (Lion).
